Previous Achievements of the Hive Music and Media Centre - youth arts charity and arts venue:

  • The Hive Music and Media Centre is an independent youth arts charity working in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and the wider region, aiming to give young people opportunities to have fun, develop new skills and be creative, working with professional artists.
  • The Hive Music and Media Centre has worked with local and regional core grants of just £70,000 a year but through its projects has brought a further half a million pounds of project funding into the region each year. That's nearly £7 of inward investment for each £1 of local funding.
  • The Centre has spent over £1.6 million pounds on projects with young people in Shropshire since April 2005.
  • The Hive is the administrative hub of the Youth Music Action Zone for Shropshire, Herefordshire and Telford & Wrekin, working in partnership with The Musicpool in Hereford.
  • We managed a dedicated music & media outreach programme of weekly workshops in Shrewsbury, Bishop's Castle, Bridgnorth & Telford and Oswestry, through Hyperlink.
  • The Hive has successfully delivered a Comic Relief funded, multi-agency alcohol awareness programme which helped young people in Shrewsbury and Oswestry over a 3 year period.
  • We have previously worked in partnership with NACRO to provide weekly music workshops hosted at The Hive and at venues in Telford & Wrekin for young learners excluded or at risk of exclusion from school.

  • The Hive organised a successful community street party in April 2011 which was attended by approximately 1000 people and hosted BBC Midlands Today live!
  • We've worked with Stoke Heath Young Offenders Institute providing weekly music workshops as part of a rehabilitation/reintegration programme for young offenders.
  • The Hive has delivered specialist transition projects for school years 6-7, providing music rock-schools for local school students moving from primary to secondary schools.
  • The Centre has run a successful Young Curators project, supporting year 9 and 10 pupils from various Shropshire schools, enabling them to work with a professional artist in the curation of the Hive Gallery Space.
  • We organise Live at the Hive on the last Wednesday of every month, presenting an evening for emerging bands and artists to play within a safe and alcohol free venue in Shrewsbury town centre.
  • The Hive gives pre-school children with the opportunity to attend Music Time sessions, weekly music workshops for under 5s, led by acclaimed local musician Mary Keith.
  • The Centre also works with partner agencies including SureStart, providing young families and pre-school children with music-making activities.

  • As a Centre, we host a diverse variety of creative events and activities for young people including live theatre and puppet shows for schools and pre-school groups, plus workshops aimed at home educated young people, youth clubs and school children.
  • The Hive provides professional community focused facilities for a wide range of groups, including Shropshire Youth Theatre, Little Fishes toddler group, Shrewsbury Life Drawing, Taking Part (social events for adults with learning difficulties), Shrewsbury Jazz Network and Shrewsbury Folk Festival, amongst much more!
  • We are also an official Arts Award Welcome Centre, with Hive artists and support staff trained as arts award advisers, helping to encourage and support young people in achieving their bronze, silver & gold Arts Awards.
  • The Hive is home to Bright Owls, an exciting language school offering language services for all occasions, ages and abilities! From GCSE support through to home tuition, weekly classes through to holiday lessons...
  • As one of Shropshire's top creative arts venues, we are continually striving to offer new opportunities for young people, work with new partners, engage with new groups and most importantly - increase participation of the arts within Shropshire!
