The Hive's May Day Festival and Street Party:

Street party for the community and May arts festival - the Hive in Shrewsbury

Our 2011 Royal Wedding street party:

The street party on Belmont was a fantastic day for everyone involved, with a variety of exciting activities on offer for people of all ages, in addition to acoustic performances, street theatre, arts and crafts workshops, information stalls, refreshments and lots more. A whole host of interactive workshops and community activities were on offer to visitors, including;

  • Stop-frame animation workshop
  • Face painting
  • Street Theatre with Shropshire Youth Theatre
  • Textile workshop
  • Flag-making workshop
  • Maypole and traditional dancing workshops
  • May crown and wedding crafts workshops
  • Balloon modelling by Poi Joi
  • Resident Hive DJ
  • Large games including Connect Four
  • Plus lots more...

An abiding memory of 2011 was our Royal Wedding Street Party in April where hundreds of people from the local community plus almost one million BBC TV viewers, joined us for a good old knees-up! The event presented a superb opportunity for the Centre to engage with our neighbours - both residents and businesses - and to bring various groups of people together for an enjoyable day. We were keen to involve as many local businesses as possible and we were very grateful to everyone who came along to support us!
