Always Something There to Remind Me...Monday 8th of March 2010 01:14 pm Penny Lane has become Memory Lane at the Hive. The Centre’s Gallery is open for a public viewing of its 1960’s celebration. The exhibition features a 1960’s mock-up living ‘corner’ with an armchair, television and record-player of the era, plus photographs, art-work and other artefacts – including a 60’s period piece installation. One of the exhibits is a poster from 1962 highlighting an up-and-coming band called The Beatles who were due to perform at The Music Hall on December 14th of that year, shortly after releasing their first UK hit Love Me Do. The exhibition is of significance for me as a child of the 1960’s. I celebrated my 50th birthday on February 27. I would like to welcome visitors to view the exhibition which will be on display until Friday 26th March. It is amazing to think that The Beatles had one of their first UK gigs performing in Shrewsbury, for a group who went onto enjoy worldwide fame, I am delighted that we are able to celebrate the link here at the Hive and to showcase other memorable features of the era. I was a child of the 60’s and still love the music of that period. Although I was very young it seemed to be an exciting time. I can vividly remember the World Cup Final of 1966 and The Beatles song Good Day Sunshine being played on the radio around that time. ![]() | ||
