Wakeman School Support
The Hive Music and Media Centre is 100% behind the campaign to save the Wakeman School from closure. We believe that The Wakeman is an excellent school with a fantastic and supportive teaching staff. The Hive has worked with hundreds of Wakeman students during a long history of partnership projects and we have been a proud employer of ex-Wakeman students. The Wakeman is the only specialist Arts School in Shrewsbury and it has a proud tradition of positively engaging with arts and culture in the town. The school's closure would result in displacement of students and the loss of an amazing resource in Shrewsbury.
During the last five years The Wakeman and the Hive has worked together on the following projects:
- Changing Tracks - a Comic Relief funded alcohol awareness programme
- Shrewsbury & Atcham Hate Crime Initiative
- B: Skilled training programme
- Hyperlink - a Big Lottery funded multi-media project
- Young Curators - an Arts Council England funded programme
- B: Sound - a Youth Music Action Zone funded rock school week
- B: Involved theatre improvisation workshops
- The Hive's Darwin community project
- Voltage volunteer placements
In addition Wakeman students have undertaken work experience at the Hive over a number of years.
The Hive urges all its supporters to get behind the Why Waste Wakeman (WWW) campaign.
Don't let this valuable school be lost to our town!
